Although patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus may present with symptoms as florid as those of type 1 diabetes mellitus (but usually not with spontaneous ketonuria), most patients with type 2 disease have relatively mild polyuria and polydipsia; many cases are diagnosed only by office screening or other health checks.
